500 Page Error Message

Have you ever experienced an unexpected 500 page error on Plants Map? There are a few bugs or actions on the site that might trigger this message. 

What is a 500 page error? The HTTP status code 500 is a generic error response. It means that the server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request (loading the page on your browser).

If you have encountered this, here are some steps to take. 

You can click this Plantsmap.com status link to see if this is a site-wide issue or if this is just a specific page issue. The status link can also be found at info.plantsmap.com by clicking on the Help Menu.  

A 500 page error is most often a temporary cache issue loading that page and not an indicator that the site is down. 
  • Turn off the browser you are using and restart your device. 
  • Manually enter Plantsmap.com into the URL address bar to avoid any saved links in your browser cache. 
  • Try using another browser on your device to open the page. We recommend Chrome, Safari or Firefox. 
  • You may also need to clear your cache on your device. Learn more on how to clear your cache from Google support.
If you continue to see this error, please let us know by reporting it via the email form on the top menu of our Help Desk. Please take a screenshot and provide details on your device, website browser and the activity you were performing just prior to the error (saving a plant, clicking a link, performing a search, using the My Tags form, etc) so that we can resolve them to prevent future errors.
