What can I map on Plants Map?

On Plants Map there are 5 types of content that can include pin location information on our maps. All location information provided is optional. The mapping tool also always you to set a location as ‘private’ so that only you, the profile owner, sees it.

When you enter edit mode for any of the following forms you will see a ‘pin location’ option.

  • Individual Profile
  • Organization Profile
  • Plants
  • Collections
  • SubCollections

None of these forms of content automatically add location or map information. You must choose to enter the information while in edit mode.

Public/Private Settings: All ‘pin location’ fields may be set to public or private.

  • Private: Only seen by you, the profile owner.
  • Public: Allows the pin to show on our community maps and will show a map pin location on a plant profile or collection map.

The private setting on plants, collections & subcollections allows you to make a map of your own plants that are only visible by you if you prefer.

To completely remove a map pin, you must delete both address information if provided and the assumed latitude or longitude coordinates.

Map Views: Community Map and Profile Maps

The community map (the ‘Map’ link within the main navigation menu) has filters to see plants, collections, and profiles of the community that have been added by the users and marked as public.

Not all plants, collections or community profiles are pinned on the community map because map locations are not required or automatic. They may also be marked as private and will not render on the community map.

Your profile map: Each profile for individuals and organizations also includes a map section at the bottom of your profile page. This map shows filters of your plants, collections and network organization connections. Again, if you choose to make any of your pin location information ‘private’ it will only be seen by you and not visible to others visiting your profile.
